% of children vulnerable in communication skills and general knowledge
The Early Development Instrument (EDI) refers to an early child development questionnaire which assesses the degree to which a child is ready to learn at school and predicts how well they will do in school. The test is completed by kindergarden teachers for all children in their classes about 5 months into the school year. The EDI measures five core areas of early child development that are good predictors of adult health, education and social outcomes: 1) Physical health and well-being; 2) Social competence; 3) Emotional maturity; 4) Language and cognitive development; and 5) Communication skills and general knowledge.
