Ottawa Community Currency Network – Get Involved!

August 28, 2012

Community Currency allows local businesses and individuals to exchange goods and services without the use of cash. It is meant to complement, not replace the national currency. It stays in the community because it has no value anywhere else. By increasing local trade, a community currency builds stronger relationships within the community.  It gets neighbours interacting more and new connections are made where they wouldn’t have otherwise. Underemployed persons and others who are not well served by the current economic system find benefit from a local currency system. In addition, a Community Currency promotes local consumption of local goods and services – waste reduction, energy conservation, and transportation costs all factor as environmental benefits to a thriving local economy. Find out more and get involved by visiting the Ottawa Community Currency Network web site.
