Ottawa accepts Healthy Kids Community Challenge

September 24, 2015

The City of Ottawa’s application to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) for a Healthy Kids Community Challenge (HKCC) grant has been successful. The MOHLTC will provide funding to the City to impact healthy eating and physical activity among children 12 years of age and under for the next 4 years. This is a community-driven project that will be led by PRCS with support from OPH.

The first step requred by MOHLTC is the completion of a community needs assessment which can provide a snapshot of the community and inform the development of a series of Theme-based Action Plans. The Theme-Based Action Plans will detail the roll out of physical activity and healthy eating activities for children 12 years of age and under in 20 City of Ottawa neighbourhoods identified as the least advantaged communities in the city as identified by the Ottawa Neighbourhood Study.
